Safe School Climate Plan

On July 13, Governor Dannel Malloy signed into law Public Act 11-232, legislation that takes comprehensive steps to ensure every child’s right to learn in Connecticut public schools without fear of teasing, humiliation, or assault.

The new law takes comprehensive steps to prevent bullying and ensure every child the right to learn in public school without fear of teasing, humiliation or assault. In accordance with state law, it is the policy of the Stonington Board of Education that any form of bullying behavior, whether in the classroom, on school property or at school sponsored events, is expressly forbidden. The board believes that a school environment, in which students feel safe, supported, engaged and helpfully challenged is optimal for learning and healthy development. The board seeks an environment in which students and adults feel socially, emotionally, intellectually and physically safe; an environment that is free of harassment, intimidation and bullying.

Deans Mill School has established a “Safe Schools Committee” that meeting regularly during the school year. The committee includes administration, staff and a parent representative. It is responsible for developing and fostering a safe school climate. The DMS Safe Schools Climate Committee will meet on Thursday, January 26th at 4pm in the Library Media Center.
